Some love stories feel like fate was quietly at work long before two people ever met—and Tyana and Shan's is one of them.

Hands adorned with gold bangles exchange an ornate ceremonial vessel during a meaningful multicultural wedding ritual, thoughtfully planned by a SoCal wedding planner.

Although they both attended UC San Diego, shared connections within the Sri Lankan community, and even crossed paths through mutual friends and familiar spaces, it took years before their timelines finally aligned. What began as a series of remarkable coincidences grew into a friendship and partnership during the uncertainty of the pandemic. Together, they navigated life's unexpected turns, eventually returning home to Los Angeles before building a new chapter together in Chicago.

Over six years, they created a life filled with adventure, laughter, beloved traditions, and two very lucky cats.

A Sri Lankan and Western Wedding at Rancho Las Lomas

For their Southern California wedding, Tyana and Shan chose Rancho Las Lomas in Orange County as the setting for a celebration that brought their Sri Lankan heritage together with a modern Western wedding experience.

As their full-service wedding planning and design team, we helped create a day where cultural traditions weren't simply incorporated into the timeline but became an integral part of the guest experience.

The ceremony began with a beautiful and unforgettable entrance. Tyana and Shan made their way into the poruwa ceremony surrounded by dancers, drums, and hymns, creating an atmosphere that immediately honored the significance of the moment and their Sri Lankan heritage.

Their Buddhist ceremony was officiated by a Lal Buddhist ceremony officiant, bringing another deeply meaningful layer to the celebration. Every part of the ceremony felt intentional, from the traditions shared with their families to the music and movement that welcomed them into their marriage.

A Cultural Guest Experience

The cultural experience continued throughout the celebration, with details designed to make guests feel connected to Tyana and Shan's story.

During cocktail hour, guests enjoyed Sri Lankan appetizers alongside the evening's other offerings. A dedicated tea station was also available for tea drinkers, adding a thoughtful touch that felt both personal and connected to the couple's heritage.

These small moments are often what make a wedding feel truly personal. Rather than simply checking traditions off a list, Tyana and Shan created opportunities for their guests to experience pieces of the culture, hospitality, and traditions that are meaningful to them.

For us, this is one of the most rewarding parts of planning a multicultural wedding: helping couples create a celebration that feels authentic to where they come from while still reflecting who they are today.

The result was a wedding that felt both timeless and deeply personal—a joyful gathering where cultures intertwined, traditions were honored, and loved ones from across the country came together to celebrate the beginning of their next chapter.
